Wines from the Lisbon region

Breaking Wine Stereotypes

In recent years, regions like Douro Valley, Alentejo, and Dão have dominated the conversation when it comes to Portuguese wine purchases. However, it's worth exploring the other 14 wine regions to broaden your horizons and discover excellent wines at more accessible prices. Today, we’ll focus on one region that's close to many of our channel’s followers – the Lisbon wine region.
This lesser-known gem consists of nine sub-regions, including Lourinhã, which specializes in brandy production. Stretching 150 kilometers, the Lisbon wine region is bordered in the south by Carcavelos Beach in Oeiras and Ossos da Baleia Beach in Leiria. From west to east, it spans 40 kilometers, starting from the Atlantic coastal dunes and moving inland. Around 2,000 winemaking families cultivate 10,000 hectares of certified vines. To help you dive into this rich and diverse wine region, we’ve prepared a selection of standout bottles:
Casal Santa Maria Reserva Tinto 2019
(Buy here)

A remarkable red blend featuring Touriga Nacional, Merlot, and Shiraz, aged for 14 months in French oak. Pair it with slow-cooked pork neck and chestnuts for a perfect match.

Baías e Enseadas Pinot Noir 2022
(Buy here)

Yes, Portugal produces excellent Pinot Noirs too! Critics regard this as the country’s finest. Beyond its fruity and lightly oaked profile, the winemaker emphasizes terroir notes such as earthiness, iodine, and salt. The vineyards are located close to the ocean, which contributes to these unique characteristics.

Quinta do Boição Reserva 2021
(Buy here)

From the Bucelas sub-region, this sparkling wine is crafted from Arinto and Chardonnay grapes, aged on the lees for two years. Fresh, mineral, and delightfully saline, it’s perfect not only for celebrations but also as a companion to richer dishes like seafood rice.
Expand your palate and experience the incredible diversity the Lisbon wine region has to offer!
