Quinta de la Rosa Extra Dry White
1815 - Dietrich Feueheerd arrives in Porto from Hamburg where his uncle was Mayor and surrendered the city to Napoleon. He lives with his family in Porto/Aveiro and starts trading in minerals and ports.
1906 - Quinta de la Rosa is bought for Claire (Sophia’s grandmother) by her English grandmother as a christening present.
1935 - The port shipping company, Feueheerd Bros, is sold to the Barros Family. Thankfully, La Rosa remains in family hands as it was Claire’s personal property. Grapes are sold to Sandeman and others.
1988 - Tim, together with his daughter, Sophia, relaunches Quinta de la Rosa. La Rosa starts making port under its own label again and soon after is one of the first Quintas to produce wine.
2005 - Tim fulfils ambition of owning a Quinta in the Douro Superior by buying Quinta das Bandeiras. The Passagem brand is launched.
The first pressings of the grapes are run off and used in our white wines. When the pH starts to rise, the last approximately 10% of the juice is drawn off into stainless steel vats, to be made into white port, stopping the fermentation by adding brandy. The Extra Dry White Port is blended from stocks held at La Rosa and is aged in large ‘tonels’ for an average of 2-3 years.
