Quinta da Biaia Fonte da Vila Síria 2019
The name “Quinta da Biaia” is popularly known for having belonged to Dona Beatriz de Sousa Lopes in the 17th century.
Pedro Jacques de Magalhães, hero of the battle of Castelo Rodrigo (Salgadela)* was the only son of Henrique Jacques de Magalhães, who held the position of Mayor of Castelo Rodrigo, where he met the Sousa Lopes family.
The friendship that united these families led Pedro Jacques to choose the young Beatriz Sousa Lopes, who had been orphaned by her parents, as the governess (nanny) of his children. Beatriz won the hearts of the children, who affectionately called her “Biaia”. As the years passed and the young Magalhães grew up, Beatriz returned to her properties, which became popularly known as “Quinta da Biaia”, a name that is still used today.
The Quinta is certified for organic production from grape to bottle, which enhances all its unique characteristics and profile, combined with an average altitude of 750 meters, giving rise to wines with a strong acidity that is its backbone.
No synthetic or animal-derived products are used in the winemaking process.
The wines can be included in a vegetarian or vegan diet.
Fonte da Vila is a medieval fountain surrounded by our oldest vineyard, which gives it its name. With a limited yield, this vineyard is the highest quality expression of our high-altitude terroir.
A delicate task of creating an exclusive and sublime wine, made from the selection of the Síria grape variety from our oldest vineyard. Fermentation and aging in new French oak barrels for 30 months, plus 4 months of aging in the bottle, results in a wine of great aromatic complexity, showing both intensity and precision and elegance. Notes of dried fruits, gunpowder, truffles and grapefruit, when tasted we have a perfect marriage between creaminess and freshness!
